Pease follow detailed instuctions: Go back through your SLP, and make changes and revisions in accordance with the feedback you’ve received so far. The next step is to operationalize the variables in your project. Here is a discussion on operationalization that may be helpful to you. Here is a discussion on survey design and layout that also touches on the operationalization question.

LAST PAPER BELOW:
Employee Attrition One of the major issues that most companies face in this modern competitive business world is their inability to retain their employees. Further, the retention ratio of companies keeps on diminishing at a fast rate. The major reasons for this rapid termination of employees are stated as under: Lack of Training • Ramp up time is very less.
• Missions are not well defined.
• Ever changing work environment. All these factors have a major influence on the performance of employees which ultimately leads to their turnover. These points can be explained briefly as under:
• Lack of Training When an employee is not trained well he will not be able stand up to his task and will feel depressed. Thus, he may not be interested in carrying out that job, which ultimately will lead to the termination of his services.
• Ramp up time Ramp up time is the time required for an employee to get familiar with a job. If an employee is put to work without being properly trained, he may not be able to learn his job her carry out the its responsibilities which ultimately results in termination.
• Missions are not well defined. Missions are the objective that are set, which need to be achieved by the employee, if the employee is put to work without a proper mission statement or direction he or she will get frustrated with his work, which ultimately leads to termination.
• Ever changing work environment. Business environment is always changing as per the market conditions. Some employees may find it difficult to cope with the new environment which ultimately leads to termination. All these factors are independent variables like: Lack of Training Ramp up time Missions are not well defined Ever changing environment Such factors are related to a common dependent factor. That is: High turnover of employees: Independent variables like lack of training, Ramp up time, Missions are not well defined ever changing environment are closely related to a dependent variable, i.e., high turnover of employees. (Easton & McColl, n.d). (Foster, 1856). On the basis of level of measurement, the variances are mainly classified in to four types. These are: Nominal Variance: Names and labels are used for categorization for this. Ordinal Variance: Priority is given to the order rather than size or degree of difference. Interval Variance: Quantitative attributes are measurable on interval scale. Ratio Analysis: Measurement in physical science is usually done on the ratio scale. Lack of training, ramp up time, Mission etc are based on the time period and there for the level of measurement is based on interval variance. Hypothesis testing is mainly done to draw statistical inference. Hypothesis testing is mainly done to check whether a given statement is true or false. There are mainly two types of hypothesis. They are: Null hypothesis which is denoted by (H0) and alternative hypothesis (H1) Null hypothesis (H0) is stated in favor of the statement where as Alternative hypothesis (H1) is stated against the statement. Following inferences are drawn, based on the hypothesis testing. They are:
– Lack of training is positively correlated to turnover of employees.
– Ramp up time is positively correlated to turnover of employees.
– Incomplete mission statement is perfectly correlated to turnover of employees.
– Ever changing environment is perfectly correlated to turnover of employees Correlation is used to state the relationship between two variables. Relation may be either negatively or positively correlated. The factors mentioned above have a direct relationship with employees’ turnover. Though the factors are independent variables, these are perfectly correlated to a direct variable like turnover of employees. Here, we can come to the conclusion that the turnover of employees mainly takes place due to factors such as lack of training, ramp up time, incomplete mission statement and ever changing environment. Thus, the major challenge for any firm in this competitive world is not that of lack of training as mentioned in the situation but it is that of retaining their existing and efficient employees. Therefore, the firms should take necessary measures in order to retain their employees. Successful running of every business is thus based on their ability to retain their employees, by inculcating in them proper work attitude and motivation. LAST PAPER COMMENTS FROM PROFESSOR: APA Format: Same comments as in the Case Assignment on correct format. You wrote, “high turnover of employees. (Easton & McColl, n.d). (Foster, 1856).” This should have been, “… high turnover of employees (Easton & McColl, n.d; Foster, 1856).” On the Foster article, unless here is a compelling reason to do so don’t use articles over 10 years old. Variables: Let’s talk about your variables. They are fine, but you must leave them open to measurement by not biasing them toward a specific polarity. For example, “lack of training” is not a variable, “training” is the variable, “lack of” is one of the poles you will find in your measurements. If you give 200 participants surveys with items designed to measure the level of training, some will score high, some mid-range, and some low. That variance in the measures is how you build a correlation to the variance in the dependent variable, “employee turnover” (not high turnover). Let me demonstrate. Lack of Training should be Level of Training Ramp up time is fine Missions are not well defined should be Mission Definition Ever changing environment could be Environment stability High turnover of employees should be turnover Let’s move on to your hypotheses. You wrote, “Null hypothesis (H0) is stated in favor of the statement where as Alternative hypothesis (H1) is stated against the statement.”. Actually the null (H0) is typically stated as no relationship, and the alternative (H#) is typically stated in favor of a relationship. It is increasingly common to forego a null hypothesis and only state the alternative in current research. You stated, “Following inferences are drawn, based on the hypothesis testing.” You have to form your hypotheses, and then test them, before you can have your findings. Depending on you findings, you can then form inferences. What you listed is in the format of a finding, not an inference. They are:  Lack of training is positively correlated to turnover of employees.
– Ramp up time is positively correlated to turnover of employees.
– Incomplete mission statement is perfectly correlated to turnover of employees.
– Ever changing environment is perfectly correlated to turnover of employees Let’s start by stating them as hypotheses. H1: Training is positively correlated with employee turnover. H2: Ramp up time is positively correlated to turnover of employees. (good job on this one). H3: Mission definition is positively correlated with employee turnover. (you used the word “perfectly”…it is doubtful you will ever find a perfect correlation…you would have to have exact variance in every single case.) H4: Environment stability is positively correlated with employee turnover. Overall you are moving in the right direction…keep plugging Exactly how will you measure them? Explain in detail why you chose each type of operationalization. For example, if you choose to ask for age by cohort (e.g., “below 21; 21 through 30; 31 through 40; “etc.) instead of simply asking the subject to write down his or her age, then you should explain why. It is common practice to collect demographic variables, such as age, gender, education level, years on the job, etc. (In statistical terms, which I’ll mention but not explain, these data are useful as controls and possible covariates. Besides, people expect to answer some questions like these.) Which demographic variables do you intend to collect? Why? Do any of your variables consist of attitudes or opinions? If so, describe the items and scales you will use to measure each of them. You can either search the Web for appropriate scales (always a good idea), or take a swing at writing your own items and building your own scales. Be sure to refer back to the principles covered on the Module Homepage, and in the Background Info. If any of your variables involve organizational data or archival data to be obtained by methods other than surveying individual respondents, please identify them clearly as such. These data can be very helpful, but need to be managed carefully and analyzed in special ways. Describe and justify the sampling scheme you intend to utilize. Refer to the Module Homepage and background materials. Bear this in mind, though: If you collect data from all, or most, members of your organization, then you’re not sampling at all. If that’s the case, then just say so, and move on. SLP Assignment Expectations Your paper should be short (2-3 pages, not including cover sheet – references not generally required) and to the point. You are expected to deal with each of the issues, but also to consider that the assignment as a whole has a point – in this case, defining the research problem and research context. It is also expected that if there are aspects of the assignment that you do not understand, or need help completing, that you will contact your instructor as soon as possible for assistance, rather than simply passing it by. You are in training to become academic professionals, and academic professionals understand that it’s often necessary to consult with colleagues to fully understand things, and that such collegial interaction is a sign of strength and ability, not an admission of weakness. While you are expected to apply yourselves assiduously to working out these problems, you are also expected to recognize when help may be needed, and to seek it out. If you don’t understand something, don’t try to bluff it through or pretend that you understand more than you do. You will be particularly assessed on: Your description of all the items specified in the exercise Your understanding of the purpose of the assignment – to develop your understanding of variable operationalization and m,easurement and sampling procedures Your ability to adapt the requested items to the organizational context of your project creatively but with fidelity to the core research needs Your ability to use research terminology and language correctly (be sure to ask if there’s something that you do not understand) The clarity and quality of your writing
